New facility
A distribution center in Avenida de las Torres in Mexico has been converted to create space efficiency. This comprehensive facility has new material handling trucks that allow aisles to be seven feet rather than 10 to 11 feet—a 64 percent to 70 percent reduction in space. Results have been well received and there are plans to convert other facilities too. These facilities are a combination of IOS-owned and customer locations for stocking.

Packaging design software
IOS further expanded design capabilities by updating to new ARTIOS packaging design software. This enhances the ability to work with designs over EDI and provide design support to U.S. and Mexican markets.

Packaging: It’s hip to be square
Boxes are “in” and this packaging method’s ease of recycling makes it particularly popular. Economical, environment-friendly, and adaptable, corrugated materials can be custom designed to suit small, sensitive materials like electronic components, as well as large items like household appliances. The IOS Packaging & Logistics Division offers global packaging solutions.

Globalization, culture and terrorism
With developing technologies and logistics capabilities that blur borders, globalization is here to stay. As cultures unite to find common business practices and methods of communication to benefit both sides, relationships evolve and the face of business changes. The common fear and reality of terrorism since 9/11 has sped the production of redundant electronic communications that can provide secure, duplicated data for companies in event of a terrorist act. Data Services provides reliable, secure data capture and storage.

Retail outsourcing of IT
According to Retail Week Magazine (4/29/05), retailers are moving toward keeping a small in-house IT team to manage the outsourced IT functions of the company. Thus, a retailer can focus on its core business of developing, marketing and selling products, but still maintain control over its data functions such as coupon redemption, returns processing, credit card verification, and inventory control, while its in-house team coordinates with the outsourcing
services provider.
