About 40 miles southeast of Mexico City, this stratovolcano with three peaks is the third highest mountain in Mexico and part of the Trans-Mexico volcanic belt. The mountain today is known as “The Sleeping Woman” to correspond with Aztec mythology and its appearance as a woman lying on her side. A modest 17,342 feet (5,286 meters), it serves as a perfect training expedition for climbing enthusiasts.
